Project LIFE for Minuartia (LIFE15NAT/CZ/000818) connect basic research and practical nature conservation and is aimed to enhance population size of critically endangered endemic species M.smejkalii by about 40% by means of particular actions: (1) Revitalization of natural sites, (2) Establishment of gene bank – ex-situ conservation, (3) Direct enhancement of population size in the nature and reintroduction (4) Involving of local people to plant protection via establishment of specific program Rescue planting in private garden. The project focus also on enhancement of awareness of local people about specificity of M.smejkalii, its habitat and importance of the NATURA 2000 network for species protection.

The main role of Institute of Botany is evaluation of genetic diversity of particular populations, evaluation of population dynamic and quality of habitats. On the basis of these data we suggest suitable management interventions on particular sites (e.g. intensity of tree cutting, mowing, grazing) and/or direct enhancement of populations by sowing of seeds or transplanting of plants and evaluate their impact on target plant species and vegetation. We also develop suitable method for of ex-situ conservation. To establish long-term sustainable species protection, we predict species performance on particular sites on the basis of recent knowledge about population dynamic, ecological recruitments and models of climate changes and reflect these prediction to Management plans and Metodology of care.
