|Summary:||Genetic variation, morphological plasticity and origin of distribution pattern in Melampyrum subalpinum agg., which is considered endemic group of Central Europe, will be studied. Based on previous morphological study, a hypothesis was formulated that old hybridization between M. angustissimum and M. nemorosum increased morphological variation of the group. This hypothesis will be tested by DNA content analysis, isozyme analysis, cp-DNA haplotyping and AFLP. A pilot study of DNA content revealed a surprising variation in this character among populations. The data on genetic variation within and between populations and haplotype distribution pattern will be synthesised to explain the unique distribution area in the Central Europe. Study of phenotypic plasticity of characters, which are used for taxa determination in M. nemorosum group, and pilot study of variation of several morphological similar taxa in the Balkan penninsula will introduce new insights in taxonomical concept of group.|
