Summary: |
The aim of this project is to prepare a critical edition of one of the fundamental Bohemian scientific works of the 16th century - the Czech adaptation of Matthioli\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s Herbarium, translated by Thaddaeus Hagecius ab Hagek (1525-1600) and printed in Prague in 1562. This edition will be accompained with the commentary analysing the Renaissance level of the knowledge of the systematic botany and equipped with the original woodcuts. The editorial work will be based on the comparison of the Czech adaptation with the original Italian, or more precisely, Latin texts; because of accommodation of the work to the Central European conditions, it is also intended to compare the text with the younger German (1563) and Czech (1595) adaptation. After this textual work, the optimal way of presentation will be selected (the bilingual edition?: Latin-Czech, or Czech-German). The original botanical descriptions will be evaluated from the contemporary point of scientific view by RNDr. Jan Štěpánek, CSc. |
