Summary: The main objective of the long-term Czech–American collaboration is a comprehensive reconstruction of historical variability in hurricane activity and its impacts on natural and managed forest stands, as well as the creation of a data foundation for future applications aimed at (i) improving projections of future changes in hurricane activity, (ii) mitigating the impacts of changing hurricane activity, and (iii) adapting forest management practices to reduce hurricane-related damage in managed forests. The project will also provide unique insights into long-term changes in hurricane activity. This will enable us to better understand the evolving interactions between the ocean and the atmosphere and, ultimately, to gain a deeper understanding of ongoing climate change and its influence on recent trends in hurricane activity.
