Summary: The aim of the project is to quantify the contribution of healthcare facilities to the overall load of micropollutants in wastewater treatment plants through an extensive wastewater monitoring campaign . Direct monitoring will cover the part of healthcare facilities responsible for at least 60% of the bed capacity and at least 60% of hospitalizations in two model cities (regional and district cities). Another objective of the project is to create a specialized database of drugs found in sewage networks and at WWTP, an overview of their metabolites, specificity of use in healthcare facilities, toxic properties for the environment, and a critical review of possible technologies suitable for decentralized reduction of these substances at the source of their entry into the sewage system.
