Institute of Botany is represented in the Intergovernmental Platform IPBES

Petr Petřík from the Department of Vegetation Ecology at the Institute of Botany of the Czech Academy of Sciences has been newly elected to the Multidisciplinary Expert Panel of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).

The Intergovernmental Platform IPBES was established in 2012 with the aim of bridging science, practice, and policy in the field of biodiversity and ecosystem services. It has 152 member states and cooperates with a number of prominent scientific and non-governmental organizations. Its main outputs are assessment reports that provide a comprehensive, science-based overview of the state of nature on Earth.

The appointment of Petr Petřík to this key scientific body of the platform, which is responsible for the scientific integrity and quality of all reports, demonstrates that the Czech Republic is strengthening its influence on global decision-making in nature conservation. The active involvement of Czech experts ensures that the Central European perspective and experience are adequately reflected in IPBES global reports.
