Institute of Botany of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Trebon, Czech Republic, offers an opening for a team leader of Centre for Algology. Centre for Algology is a department focusing on the taxonomy and ecology of photoautotrophic microorganisms worldwide, with strong position in traditional taxonomy of Cyanobacteria (school of Prof. J. Komarek). The part of the department is a well-known international Culture collection of autotrophic organisms (CCALA, www.ccala.butbn.cas.cz), maintaining more than 800 strains of microalgae and cyanobacteria. We are also interested in the experimental and applied phycology focusing on the storage and high-value compounds of photoautotrophs. We are searching for an excellent scientist with international visibility in the field of photoautotrophic microbiology sciences and with special focus on photoautotrophic microorganism (cyanobacteria, microalgae) taxonomy and/or ecology to work as the department team leader. Employing interdisciplinary approaches, research shall be entered on taxonomy and ecology of photoautotrophs. Experience with special metabolites such as, but not exclusively, polyunsaturated fatty acids and carotenoidsare welcome. The proposed research program by applicant shall be internationally competitive and combine theory and practice according to the strategy of Academy of Sciences. Starting date 1st March 2020 later or sooner start is negotiable Duration of appointment Two years with expected extension depending on performance and ability of candidate to get funding for her/his research and the team. Qualifications The qualified applicant shall have PhD degree in relevant branch of biology or biochemistry. Previous research work of the applicant should be documented by excellent publications in the field of algology, microbial ecology, or molecular biology and taxonomy. Successful experience in the acquisition of research grants is expected. Previous experience with team leadership is welcome. We seek a candidate with communication skills, ability to work independently as well as of leading and developing people and fluent in English.
