Realization to:
2006
Summary:
Project hypothesis: \"Aquatic ecosystems in the Czech Republic are dominated by water blooms producing cyanotoxins - the occurence and concentration increase in time. Beside known acute toxicity, new poorly characterized mechanisms and effects of cyanotoxins play a significant ecological role (embryotoxicity, non-lethal effects in phytoplankton)\". Background, aims: Unique information on occurence of cyanobacteria in the Czech Republic were collected in 1994 and 1999 (80 reservoirs). The project proposes: (i) obtaining new scientific data on cyanobacteria and toxins in the CR (year 2004); (ii) detailed characterization on newly identified cyanobacterial toxicity mechanism (embryotoxicity in FETAX model); (iii) studies on biochemical mechanism of embryotoxicity (in vitro model of retinoic acid modulation); (iv) studies on hypothesis of allelopathic effects of cyanotoxins (non-lethal effects and interaction with phytoplankton and plants).
