Summary: | Aim of the proposed project is to quantify the effects of different amounts of rainfall on plant and soil processes in three types of grassland ecosystems occurring in lowland, upland and mountain region. Results of the experiment will enable as to assess the effect of drought on vitality and the competitive abilities of various plant species. They will be also used to demonstrate the differences and relationships among biomass, productivity, and N cycling. Our experiment will enable us also to investigate how differences in water availability influence the microbial transformations mediating N availability to plants and hence N cycling. Thus we will specify how and to what extent differences in precipitation are reflected in soil organic matter accumulation, in N mineralization and nutrient availability. Thus our project will provide data which can elucidate responses and mechanisms of changes in different grassland ecosystems by experimental manipulation of changing rainfall. Obtained |
