| Professional specialization: | As a researcher in the field of plant ecological epigenetics, my primary focus is to investigate the adaptive potential of epigenetic modifications in plants. These modifications can have a significant impact on both gene expression and plant phenotype, and, to some extent, also of their offspring. However, several fundamental questions remain in this field, including the heritability of epigenetic modifications across generations, their susceptibility to natural selection, and their potential to aid plant adaptation to future environmental challenges. Given the imminent threat of climate change, it is imperative that we address these questions, as epigenetic modifications could play a crucial role in enabling plant species to adapt to changing environmental conditions. |
