Project description:

We aim at determining the distribution of diploid and tetraploid populations of the Isoëto-Nanojuncetea species Cyperus fuscus and the respective ecological niches of the two cytotypes in the central European region comprising Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Moreover, we aim at documenting historical demographic changes in populations of Cyperus fuscus. The specific questions to be answered are:

  • 1. What is the distribution of diploid and tetraploid populations of Cyperus fuscus in Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia?
  • 2. Are diploids and tetraploids ecologically segregated? Do diploids and tetraploids occupy different ecological niches?
  • 3. How have populations of Cyperus fuscus been affected historically in the study region?
