Summary: Although hybrids are routinely listed in most Potamogeton accounts, great majority of the records are based solely on morphological observations. The existence of only a few hybrid combinations has been proved with molecular methods, experimentalverification is entirely missing. However, morphology is inadequate and insufficient for reliable identification of many potential hybrids. Most putative hybrids require critical re-evaluation. There is only little information about the extend ofcrossing in nature. Basic data on fertility of recognized Potamogeton hybrids are not available. The aim of this project is research on selected aspects of hybridization in Potamogeton. The research design include hybridization experiments, comparison ofisozyme phenotypes of putative hybrids with that of possible parental species, and study of reproductive behaviour of hybrids. Critical revision of hybridization in Potamogeton in the Czech Republic will be done, too, based on field study and examination
